MK Dons 3-0 Bristol Rovers: Match Report

Rovers lose their first game of 2020 following a hugely disappointing display away at MK Dons.

The beginning of the game was rocky for The Gas as keeper Jaakkola, who has been in terrific form since joining in the summer, had to be substituted after landing awkwardly.

Rovers struggled to maintain possesion in the first half but had a decent chance to open the scoring when JCH’s cross found Leahy at the far post however , his effort was well saved by the MK ‘keeper.

Following this MK Dons took the lead minutes later when forward Rhys Healey turned well and slammed the ball into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

Following the opener Rovers continued to struggle and if not for two vital goal-line blocks from Menayese and Leahy, Rovers would have had a much larger deficit going into the halftime break.

Unfortyatley for the travelling gasheads any notion of a second half comeback was put to the sword as, on the hour mark, as Sam Nombe reacted quickest to a lose ball and was able to tap into the net following a decent save from the substitue ‘keeper Van Stoppershoef.

Rovers really struggled to create any clear cut opportunities for their front players. With many of their shots coming from distance, most notably Liam Sercombe firing a half volley over the bar. However even on the few occasions Rovers fashioned a presentable opportunity, the MK defence was their to clear away a JCH header.

MK wrapped up the points with 7 minutes left when Agard was played through 1 on 1 with Van Stappershoef and the MK forward camly poked the ball past the keeper.

This leaves Rovers without a win under Ben Garner and puts them 8th in League One. The Gas face fellow League One team Coventry in the 3rd round of the FA cup.
