Opposition view: Charlton (H)

Before we look at the game, could you give us a memory from previous games against the Gas?

My best memory of Bristol Rovers away is back in 2016 on a Tuesday night in November when we thrashed you boys 5-1.

At the time it was a surprise result as we had no manager Russell Slade had just been sacked. But that night everything we seemed to hit went in.

Remember enjoying a few drinks afterwards in The Wellington with your fans whom were still good craic despite the result.

How has your season been going so far?

A very mixed season so far. At the start of the season most of us would’ve taken staying up & actually still having a football club to support.

But thankfully after years & years after such turmoil off the pitch with terrible absent owners… we now have Thomas sandgaard in charge who has already made massive much needed improvements at the club

Setptember/October saw us go on a great run of not losing in 8 and not conceding in 6 of them.

But since then our form has been all over the shop, a massive part to that is our two main center backs getting injured & continued rotation of our team. Last 5 games we haven’t won and let in 12 goals, so a turnaround in fortunes is much needed.

Tuesday night we recovered from 4-2 down at home to Rochdale and drew 4-4. Hopefully we can start to build on that second half performance.

And what would you say your ambitions are for the rest of the campaign?

As I said earlier our ambitions has fans this season have changed so much due to the change of ownership & then again from our inconsistent performances.

Personally I think it’s going to be a tight league this year so if we can be in those playoff positions come may/june (whenever this season ends!) then i’ll be happy with that.

More importantly it’ll be nice to have a stable season off the pitch for a change!

How is your form coming into the game?

In our last 6 games we’ve won once and that was down to a fantastic second half performance against Afc Wimbledon.

Our last 5 games conceding 12 goals & performances have been really disappointing, conceding far too many goals & far too many mistakes.

Our second half performance against Rochdale hopefully will give us momentum going into Saturday’s game.

How do you think you’ll setup for our game?

In the second half against Rochdale we finished the game with two up front, a new partnership of new signing Ronnie Schwartz & Chuks Aneke that seemed to work really well with both of them scoring. So I’d hope we do the same at the start of the game on Saturday.

Our two main center backs are still out injured & our captain Jason Pearce who’s also a center back got sent off on Tuesday night so we will have another make shift defence.

I see us going 4-4-2 but Bowyer loves to try to fool the opposition with his formations so may be 4-3-3 instead.

Any weak links in your side?

At the moment our weakness is central defence as on Saturday we will only have one Center back available. And this season we have struggled to deal with pacey strikers.

Cody Bishop of Accrington caused us massive problems last Friday night & again on Tuesday Rochdale winger Kwadwo Baah. So that is an area to exploit.

Who are your standout players?

Liam Millar he’s only played a couple of games so far as we’ve only just got him on loan from Liverpool. He’s a player we’ve been crying out for! A winger who takes on defenders and drives us up the pitch.

Game prediction

Bristol Rovers 1-3 Charlton – I can’t see us not conceding but I think overall our forwards will click again & momentum from Tuesdays comeback will drive us on

Where do you think you’ll be come the end of the season?

5th – A late rally for the top two but overall I think injuries & conceding late equalisers earlier on in the season will cost us
