Before we look at the game, could you give us a memory from previous games against the Gas?
No offence, but I have no outstanding memories of games against The Gas! I’ve never been to your place and I can’t remember any particularly thrilling encounters at BP over the years either!
How has your season been going so far?
Two league games, two late goals to lose them both…it’s business as usual this end! We did come from two down in the League Cup to win on pens against Tranmere, which prompted a spontaneous pitch invasion. Definitely the season highlight so far!
And what would you say your ambitions are for the rest of the campaign?
We’ve not finished in the top ten of L1 or L2 in ten seasons. Finishing top ten would be an ambition. Sad, isn’t it?!
How is your form coming into the game?
We had our worst ever season at BP in the 20/21 campaign and we lost the first home game of the season, then the second away. So poor, really, really poor!
How do you think you’ll setup for our game?
3 / 5 / 3 is Keith Curle’s preferred set up. Against Bradford we did well getting the ball out wide but offered very little in the box. We dominated possession, played the better football but lost because of silly defensive mistakes. I’d expect more of the same against you guys on Tuesday.
Any weak links in your side?
Although we are looking more solid than last season, when we conceded the most goals in the division, we are still prone to a lack of concentration.
This week’s culprit was Karl Piergianni who gave away a 98th minute penalty at Bradford, but it’s usually a case of take your pick! The goal keeper made a couple of howlers at the weekend too.
Who are your standout players?
Dylan Bahamboula is a fans fave. He was largely ineffective against Bradford at the weekend but still popped up with the equaliser.
I like the look of new signing Sam Hart, he has a lot of energy and likes to get forward and of course Nicky Adams is always capable of supplying a killer cross. New signing Jordon Clarke also looks good in defence.
We’ve both started as badly as each other and both really need a win, so it’s a tough one to call but I think it’s got 0-0 written all over it. Worth the 6 hour round trip? Probably!
Where do you think you’ll be come the end of the season?
Lower mid table, unless we go into Admin and end up relegated! I don’t think we have the squad depth of anything higher than that, but we’re less likely to concede as many as last season.
I don’t predict a thriller of a season, there’s usually more off the field antics to keep us busy than on it at Latics unfortunately!
